Uh! Nothing can be the finisher of a lovely meal than a beverage. It can be a cool one or a hot one. But the stain it leaves on the sofa can be a bit hard to clean. Wine stains the most common one. A spill of wine can really wipe your mood from good to bad. The mixer of dishwashing soap and water will help here too. The shampoo or foam mixer can clean almost all kinds of beverage stains.
3. Fruit and berry stains
We all eat a fruit now and then. It’s a healthy food and a good choice for a healthy diet. The juices from fruits and berries can easily stain your sofa. If you don’t take care of it quick enough then it can ruin your sofa for good. You can use a mixer of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol. For that, you will need two-thirds of a cup of rubbing alcohol and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. This would do the trick.
4. Oil and grease and stains
Watching a game with friends at home with pizza, so fun!!..... Until you accidently drop pizza grease on the sofa. Don’t know what to do now? Don’t you worry, you can easily remove any kind of oil or grease stain with baking soda? Firstly you have to soak the oil or grease from the sofa by sprinkling baking soda or cornstarch.Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then use a vacuum to clean the spot. After that, remove the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent.
5. Water stains
Don’t get scared when you see drops of water stain that leaves a brown patch on the sofa. Water stains are common on fabric when the water dries up on it. It’s really weird how the water can put a stain on the sofa. The cleaning of this stain can be a bit tricky.
You need to blot when the fabric is still wet. Blot using a clean towel pulling fluid from the sofa. Use a vinegar solution to damp the area then again blot from edge to center. Leave the solution for 15 minutes. Then blot again using the same method. You have kept doing it until the water ring disappears. Then blow dried with a clean cloth.
You must not pour water on the wet fabric as it can cause bigger water stains. There are some fabric sofas that are made of silk. These kinds of sofas are not allowed to clean with water, as the water dries up it leaves stains. If you’re having doubt you should contact a professional. On the other hand, you can contact with your furniture retainer for clear instructions.
What to do with unknown stains?
I think everybody has been through that situation where there is a stain and you don’t know what it is. It could be grease or wine or sweat who knows!! It can be really hard to clean it for an unknown stain. Wrong treatment can cause the stain to stick to the fabric and that could be a big risk for you. It can cause so much damage that even professionals can’t get the stain off. So you should be careful when treating an unknown stain.
Here I am giving you some tips on what to do with unknown stains.
Step1: Firstly you have to blot the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent.
If that doesn’t remove it, then let it dry and continue further.
Step 2: Use a solution of the dishwasher, water, and vinegar. You need one tablespoon of vinegar, tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and two cups of cool water. Blot the stain with this solution.
Step 3: you need to blot the stain with rubbing alcohol.
If that doesn’t remove the stain, let the alcohol evaporate and proceed to further steps.
Step 4: Use a mixer of ammonia and dishwashing liquid to blot the stain. Mix one tablespoon of ammonia, the tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and two cups of cool water.
Rinse out the previous vinegar and dishwasher liquid solution before using ammonia. It can make it worse if you don’t .you should also test the ammonia solution on something else before using it on the sofa, as it could harm if not used properly.
Step 5: Use a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide to the stained area of the sofa. Apply it with a dropper.
If the dye is not colorfast, the hydrogen peroxide can remove the color. So you should test it on something else before use.
I think it’s time to call a professional if none of the above steps work.
Dry cleaning a sofa
Sofas are made differently; some of them can be cleaned with water. Some of them need dry cleaning. You can dry clean at home now. Collect the right tools and you’re ready for dry cleaning. The steps are given below. As the dry cleaning solvents have the strong smell you should be in a well-ventilated area.
Firstly you have to vacuum the sofa. Do it thoroughly, especially where the stain is. Vacuuming it will remove the dirt’s that can cause mud or sludge. It will then be difficult to remove the stain. The dirt can also make it worse.
Test the cleaner
You have to test the dry cleaner you choose first. Test it first under the cushion or on a cloth similar to the sofa. That way you can make sure that the cleaner won’t harm the sofa
Apply dry cleaning solvent
Every dry cleaner has different instructions and use. Make sure you read them and follow them accordingly. Only a small amount of solvent would be enough.Take a small portion of solvent on a white cloth and apply it to the stain. Don’t apply it directly on the sofa.
Blot blot blot
Blotting is a great way to get rid of stains. After applying the solvent keep blotting. Blotting will make the stain go away quick.
Keep blotting even when a stain is removed
Once the stain is removed keep blotting. As you cannot rinse out the solvent it can leave a ring mark. Use a damn cloth to soak up the solvent and let it dry afterward.
